Burtons Just Wanna Have Fun

I'm pretty sure you've all seen this video already. I know you all follow Justin Bieber's every move.
Oh wait. That's just me?

Well watch it if you haven't. I promise it's worth it.
The first time I found it, I may or may not have watched it ten times in a row.

And I may or may not have made a video like this with my family.
That's what we Burtons do. We have fun.

Conversations with Kindergarteners

Lots of interesting happenings in Kindergarten today. Those kids are just crazy.

********************************************************

Upon entering the classroom this morning
Student: Ms. Sarah! You went to the beach again!
Me: No I didn't! What makes you say that?
Student: You have all those brown dots on your face again! (referring to my freckles)

********************************************************

We were talking about fantasy vs. reality in our reading time.
Teacher: Is Ariel from The Little Mermaid fantasy or reality?
Students: Fantasy!
Teacher: What about Cinderella?
Students: Fantasy!
Teacher: How about leprechauns?
Students (except for one girl): Fantasy!
Girl: But I thought they were real!
Teacher: Nope, sorry.
Girl: Aw, shoot!

********************************************************

PS in case you were wondering, school has completely taken over my life. Hence all the posts about kindergarten and the lack of posts about anything else.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful week!

Conversations with Kindergarteners

For those of you who don't know me (which is most of you), I am pretty pale. In the summer, I will burn if I don't wear 30 SPF on the reg. When I do wear sunscreen, I will eventually tan. But without fail, my face gets thousands of freckles. And I'm not really exaggerating.

So after Spring Break, my body was tan and my face had all these little freckles, which from far away, make my face look really tan. Up close however, you can see them individually. Gives me a child-like quality. I'm used to this but apparently my kids are not. This is what went down last Tuesday.

*******************************************
Boy: Whoa what happened to your face?!
Me: Ummm...what do you mean?
Boy: I mean what happened to your face?!
Me: I'm not really sure what you're asking...
Boy: You have little brown dots all over you!!!
Me: Those are called freckles.
Boy: Whatever. They look weird.
Me: Wow. Gee thanks.
*******************************************

Well I thought my freckles were cute.
Leave it to five-year-olds to tear you down.

13.1 Miles to the Beach

I stole this title from my friend's Facebook album. It's okay. She's not suing me.

This was the best Spring Break I've had in a while.
Maybe the best ever.

I went to Longboat Key Resort with my friend from my cohort and her mom. It was the most relaxing vacation ever. We spent every day by the pool and the ocean. Reading magazines, listening to music, sipping on icy drinks, getting tan, etc.
So. nice.

My friend ran the Sarasota Half Marathon on Sunday morning. She did so well! It was her first half so she was just happy to make it to the end. She even beat the pace she set for herself.

Excuse our ghost-like bodies.

Right after the race, we hit the beach. And we didn't leave until Thursday morning.
{except to sleep and eat...obvs}

We went out to dinner every night. I'm pretty sure I had chicken at every place. Oh except the Italian restaurant where I had margherita pizza. Yummmm.

And I went to Disney World for the first time!!! We went to Magic Kingdom on Tuesday. There were so.many.people. It was way too crowded. We only got to do about five things because the lines were just insane. We waited 2 hours for Space Mountain. Two Hours!! But it was so fun. Best ride ever.

We also did Mickey's PhilharMagic, the Swiss Family Treehouse, Liberty Square Riverboat, Haunted Mansion, and Pirates of the Caribbean. We ate lunch at the Liberty Tree Tavern with one of our teachers. We got to meet her husband and had some great conversation.

{Sidenote: If you have not seen Swiss Family Robinson, please do so immediately. It was one of my favorites growing up. The Treehouse tour was amazing! I felt like I was in the movie. One of the highlights of my life. No joke.}

I can't wait to go back when it's less crowded. I think my small group is planning a trip in October. Woohoo!

Sadly I'm now back at school. Fortunately the week has flown by.
I'm about to go take a nap before the Hunger Games Midnight Premiere tonight!!! I'm going to be dead when I have to wake up at 5:30 tomorrow morning. My kindergarteners better behave themselves.

Catch ya on the flip side.

7 Questions {Part 2}

I'm back from vacation!! The beach was amazing. More on that later.
Today I'm linking up with Gentri Lee for 7 questions!
First, here's my funny picture:

Free hair/beard nets at Mayfield Dairy. Can't let those go to waste.

1. Pick a boyfriend: Edward Cullen, Peeta Mellark, or Harry Potter.
-Peeta Mellark. Love him.
{Hunger Games in 7 days!!! eeekkkk!!}

2. If you HAD to have a crazy hairdo, what hairdo would you choose and why? (mohawk, mullet, etc)
-I would love to have dreads. My hair is long enough already...

3. If you could be a celebrity, what would you like to be celebrated for? (dancing, singing, acting, reality tv, political leader, etc)
-Singing for sure. I've been singing since I could talk and it's always been my dream to be in a famous group.

4. Be honest-do you brush and floss your teeth daily?
-I brush my teeth at least three times a day (I love the feeling!) Do I floss? Sometimes. I really need to do that more.

5. What is one fear you are working to overcome?
-I honestly cannot think of a single answer. Lame.

6. White chocolate, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or semi-sweet?
-It's a tie between milk and dark. Depends on my mood.

7. What is one trend you wish you could pull off?
-Fedora hats.

Hope you're having a fabulous day!!

Road Trippin' It

It's finally Spring Break!!!!
I'm leaving today for Sarasota, Florida. Seven hour drive. No big deal.
My friend is running a half on Sunday. Then we're hanging out on the beach every other day until Wednesday.
Oh. And I'm going to Disney World!!!!!!!
First.Time.Ever.

Shocking, right?!
I'm such a Disney freak. I'm almost embarrassed to say I've never been.
But I'm finally going!!!
Just for a day. But it still counts.
Woohoo!!

{This will be me.}

I'll be back next week with pics!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
{just thought you needed a few more exclamation marks. don't think i put enough}

7 Questions

I'm linking up with Gentri Lee today!
I'm required to post a funny picture of me. So here you go.
My brothers and me. Apparently they like to go shirtless.

1. If you could only eat savory or sweet things for the rest of your life, which would you choose- and why?

Definitely sweet. I live for chocolate. And I loveeee fruit.

2. Would you rather live in the ocean (underwater), in the sky (on a cloud), or in space?
I'm thinking the sky. Being underwater kind of terrifies me. I don't like what lives in the ocean! A cloud sounds much safer (and softer).

3. Desert, Mountains, Plains, or Tropics?
Tropics. No question.

4. Would you rather live with chronic pain or the worst pain you can imagine for 24 hours?
Worst pain for 24 hours. It will all be over in a day! I like being able to see the end of things.

5. If you had to repeat one of these again, which would it be? Preschool, Elementary, Jr High/ Middle School, High School, College.
Elementary. Good thing I'm going to school to be an elementary teacher.

6. Tribal, Floral, Stripes, or Polka Dots?
Stripes! So easy. I even have a whole board dedicated to them on Pinterest.

7. Are you right handed or left handed?
Right handed. So boring.

Overheard

"I don't wanna go to Mexico no more more more.
There's a big, fat policeman at the door door door.
He'll grab you by the collar,
make you pay a dollar.
I don't wanna go to Mexico no more more more."

****************************************************

Two Hispanic children were singing this today in line.
Ironic? Weird? Confusing?

Answer: All of the above.

Make Good Choices

Found this on Pinterest.
Obviously I loved it.
We know all about my obsession with LC.

Make good choices, my friends.

Next year will be the first time in four years that I will be able to paint my bedroom. I'm super excited.
I just have a slight problem: I'm awful at making decisions.
Especially with things that have to last a whole year. Like wall paint.
I keep seeing all of these wonderful ideas and I'm like "Yeah I want it all!"
Obviously that's not going to work.

So here are a few things floating around in my mind:

love this combination

paint to look like fabric

I was leaning towards a soft lavender color for the walls (like Whitney Port's bedroom*) but I think I may have changed my mind to this sea foam green color.

Well look at that. I may have just made a decision, folks. It's not as hard as I thought.

*Obviously I'm obsessed with all things related to The Hills.

Thankful

I would just like to say how thankful I am for Beth Moore's James Study. My small group has been working through it for the past six weeks and I am continuously blown away by how applicable it is to what I'm going through. God sure knew I needed it right now in this season of life.

I hate that I've been sick all week but it has given me the opportunity to lay in bed and read the Bible for hours every day.

There is just nothing better than that.

Exciting News

I'm going to Modena, Italy in three months!!!
I'm going through UGA's College of Education to study abroad for the Maymester.
I absolutely cannot wait.
I've been looking at pictures and it is so gorgeous. The best part is that it isn't a tourist area so we will likely be the only Americans in town.

I'll be staying with a host family and working in an elementary school every morning.
On the afternoons and weekends, we'll be traveling to see more of Italy. We have two weekend trips planned to Florence and Venice.
Verona is very close so that is on my to-do list.

Any other suggestions? I want to make the most of the time I have there since it will be very short. I'd love to hear your thoughts!
